The only tale to tell about Immaculate Machine's new album, Fables, is that it's fan-fable-tastic. It is so a word. Kathryn Calder, Brooke Gallupe and Luke Kozlowski have loaded their follow-up to Ones and Zeros with rich, organic, classic songs. Mr. Final Fantasy, Owen Pallett shows up to do some of the string arrangements while Alex Kapranos and his new pals The Cribs lend their voices to the urgency that is "Jarhand." Fables is this year's Twin Cinema (and not just because Calder also spends time as a New Pornographer), evoking memories of a bygone era where three-part harmonies wrapped themselves your ears and warmed you from the outside in.
