Royal Canoe Biography

A six-piece ensemble from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Royal Canoe's dedication to crafting a seamless musical pastiche is obsessive. For live shows, they’d rather lug musical equipment across the continent (picture voyageur canoe) than rely on lengthy backing tracks. They have cited their hometown as a core influence for their work, in particular, Winnipeg’s extreme perpetual cycle through euphoric summers under gigantic prairie skies, to near-debilitating winters.

2013 found the band touring the world with key plays opening for Alt J, !!! and Of Montreal, Great Escape Festival, Iceland Airwaves, and a slew of headline shows. In Sept 2013 Royal Canoe released their debut album "Today We're Believers" via LA's Roll Call Records and Toronto's Nevado Records and after performing at CMJ they landed on Best Of Lists for The New York Times, KCRW and Consequence of Sound with additional support from the likes of Filter,Paste and Noisey. 2014 bring the band to every major music festival in Canada and on tour all spring with Bombay Bicycle Club.
