Mark Seymour
Biography
Mark Seymour is internationally regarded as one of Australia's best singer / songwriters.
Since making his name as the lead singer of Hunters & Collectors, Mark has enjoyed a stellar
career as a singer and acoustic guitarist. He has composed film scores, written and performed
music for theatrical productions and been a professional actor. Mark reached Australian rock cult
status throughout the 80's and 90's with Hunters & Collectors. The band performed around the
world and toured extensively in Canada, often sharing the stage with Midnight Oil.
His work continues to resonate with the raw emotion and stark lyrics that were characteristic of
H&C. He continues to enjoy documenting 'the ordinary greatness of human behavior'. Mark has
always immersed himself in the paradox of faith and love, the basic human craving for
transcendence and its opposite, the capacity for brutality and violence. He lyrically illuminates his
subjects with a deep, dark humor.
In March 2009 Mark reunited with Hunters and Collectors for the first time in 12 years to play the
Sound Relief Benefit for the Victorian Bush Fires. They headlined playing for more then
86,000 people. Mark is releasing a collection of Hunter's classics done in a new and refreshing
acoustic style. The Closest Living Thing will be released in June on All My People/Fontana
North and Mark will support the album with a tour of Canada from June 20th to July 15th.
