This Toronto based artist has released 6 CD’s of his unique songwriting, each with it’s own musical
identity. He has been the cover story of NOW magazine, and was Artist Of The Week on Bravo’s Arts and
Minds. He continues to explore a diverse range of creative avenues for his music and visual art.
While his CD Vostok 6 was released internationally on Righteous Babe Records, Swinghammer remains
an indie artist, and MapleMusic is the only place where you can purchase all of his CDs that are in print.
His most recent disc Augusta collects his favorite songs that have never been released before.
It is the first album to capture Kurt as a solo performer with acoustic guitar, and was recorded
live at the CBC’s illustrious Glenn Gould Studio. Sonically this is considered the best facility
of it’s kind in North America.
As a session guitarist he has contributed to over 70 CDs by artists including Ani DiFranco,
Rheostatics, and Sarah Slean. He recently produced a song by Ron Sexsmith for use in the feature
film Life Of The Party. As an active composer for over 40 film and TV projects, Kurt’s credits
include Ginger Snaps 2 (soundtrack available here), the theme for Media Television, and music
for Queer As Folk. As a veteran live performer he has accompanied Danny Michelle, Ron Sexsmith,
Peter Murphy, Sarah Harmer, Mia Sheard, and many others. He has created colourful graphic art for
Barenaked Ladies, Sam The Record Man, MuchMusic, and countless others, as well as art directing
videos for Maestro Fresh Wes and Patricia O’Callghan.
Kurt Swinghammer and his band plays from 9 to 11 every Monday night at The Cameron, on Queen Street West, Toronto.
