Jesse Giddings

“Everyone is somebody with a story. A story worth hearing and I want to hear it,” asserts Jesse Giddings. Previously revered as one of MuchMusic's respected VJs (2010 - 2012), the Langley, B.C. native isn't exactly lacking in personal saga himself. After a recent signing with Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company, Giddings has said goodbye to his role as a VJ and welcomed his own personal career as a musician.

Moving to Toronto after a brief stint developing his artistic tendencies in California, Giddings arrived with nothing more than two duffel bags and a goal to take over the Much environment. Living up to his expectations, recent years have found Giddings surpassing thousands of hopefuls, securing his slot on the legendary station and quickly moving to host its flagship program New.Music.Live.

“My experiences in the past couple years have been unreal,” he beams. “From covering the Olympics and Junos to travelling all over doing interviews and everything in between, my experiences at MuchMusic have been amazing. And they brought me to where I am today.”

Where Giddings currently sits however, is a vastly different place than many would expect. When aspiring to “hear peoples' stories,” he isn't referring to more interaction with newsworthy personalities. Giddings is intent on gleaning interpersonal bonds with everyone via his own inherent creativity in inimitable new venture BRIGHTER his debut EP, slated for release in spring 2013 through Universal Music Canada. Giddings’ last day as a MuchMusic VJ (August 28, 2012) marked the digital release of his first single “Sunshine,” as well as the single’s video release which was unveiled to fans across the country on his last day hosting New.Music. Live. The video was shot on the Amalfi Coast in Italy and was directed by Toronto-based filmmaker, Grandson and Son.

The direct result of Giddings' own experiences enmeshed with those of others, “Sunshine” and much of the upcoming EP benefits from his travels around California with a variety of bands, taking the helm for cult heroes Swingset Champion until 2007 and his innumerable acquaintances since attaining Much nobility. Although this is much of the case, the seeds of Giddings’ musicality were ingrained from the start, instilled through his father's own inherent adoration for stringing notes together.

“Ever since I first heard his record, I knew I wanted to make music. My house was full of musical instruments, with my mom teaching music every day and my dad constantly writing and recording. I was inspired by watching some of my musical heroes perform and how an audience connects with a performer.”

Taking that influence and sentimentality of understanding others yet making it his own, “Sunshine” and the debut EP showcases his bold uniqueness commingling with freshly understated influence from such diverse inspiration as Copeland and Metric to Mew, Dashboard Confessional, City And Colour and The Starting Line.

Performing with a variety of bands since his formative years including All Time Low, Joe Jonas and Hot Chelle Rae, Giddings has developed a formidable basis for aural vivacity and dynamic profundity. Not to mention a healthy stockpile of songs culled from ingesting the experiences and tales of others. Taking the opportunity to commit a number of his works to tape, those “stories” have unfolded as the inspiration and drive behind his own music. Leading up to the release of his new EP, Giddings will tour with Marianas Trench and Down with Webster in fall 2012, making several stops across Canada to visit fans.

Through his experience as a host on New.Music.Live, Giddings has had the opportunity to interview some of the biggest names in the music industry including Drake,, Justin Bieber and Katy Perry to name a few. Giddings also supports several charitable organizations including Me to We and Free the Children, where he recently travelled to Kenya to help build a school for local children. Giddings has also hosted Free the Children’s We Day events in Canada in 2011 and will do so again in fall 2012. In addition to his musical and charitable associations, Giddings is also an international model represented by Elite Models and has worked for the company in New York, Los Angeles, Miami and Toronto.
