Jay Aymar is a Canadian singer-songwriter who mixes elements of country and folk music with his straight forward often humorous lyrics. Whether he's singing a quiet confessional song, or an up tempo original, his melodies are filled with a sincerity that you will recognize instantly. His style is very much his own and worthy of many listens.
Recently Jay's song 'My Cherry Coloured Rose" was covered by Ian Tyson on his latest release From Yellowhead to Yellowstone and Other Love Stories. A song about hockey broadcasting icon Don Cherry and his late wife Rose. Ian Tyson: "Jay has written a true Canadian folk song - and it's a classic."
In 2010, Aymar performed over 120 shows across Canada and was recently nominated for the 2010 Canadian Folk Music Awards in the Emerging Artist category. His 2010 release, Halfway Home, is a simple song cycle of ten acoustic based folk songs. His new release, Passing Through leans more to the country side of country-folk yet similar themes are explored. Through his relentless touring he has gained a well deserved following as of late. An engaging performer with an extensive catalogue of original material.
