"The love-child of Marvin Gaye and the Beatles". This is how one fan described Hennessey at a recent show. They have combined strong melodic songs with an infusion of soul and reggae and a healthy respect for a dirty guitar: pop-rock with a groove. The alternating and often harmonizing vocals of Pamela and Rory provide a strength and variety to ten infectious songs on their debut CD entitled Dig It Up.
Since their first show two and a half years ago, they have quickly established themselves as one of the most popular live acts in Ottawa "Our philosophy is simple," Rory stated, "we have fun playing music and we try to share that with the audience".
Born of the ashes of two successful Ottawa bands (September Child and Watercan), Hennessey began its life with a full length recording in 1997 whose beginnings were tracked by Grammy award winning engineer Trina Shoemaker (Sheryl Crow, Midnight Oil, The Tragically Hip, Pearl Jam). "We wanted to create something we could be proud of," Pamela told one interviewer, "something of enough quality to stand along side anything else on the radio today". With the addition of the track Ivy League to CFNY's New Music CD last summer , extensive airplay across the country and having sold over 2000 units from the stage , her wish is seemingly coming true.
