CRUSH
Face In The Crowd Biography

Nominated for New Group of the Year at the 2003 Juno Awards, Crush is singers/songwriters/guitarists Cory Tetford and Paul Lamb, who are regularly joined on stage by Scott MacFarlane on bass and Brian Talbot on drums.

Charismatic, down to earth front men, Cory and Paul draw from a variety of diverse musical influences and backgrounds. Cory's gospel-influenced upbringing has shaped his powerful, pure, soulful voice that spans a wide range of vocal ability. A technically savvy guitarist, Cory is also extremely adept at piano, bass and drums. After ten years as lead vocalist/guitarist in various rock bands, Paul has honed his inimitable, emotional singing voice, accomplished guitar playing and his innate ability to know exactly what the audience wants.

As solo artists, Cory and Paul knew each other from the rich musical pool of fellow Newfoundland musicians. After enjoying several musical encounters together, the two decided to join forces in Spring 2000. Their vibrant creative energy and musical camaraderie meshed to form Crush.

Crush released its highly successful debut recording, Here (Sonic/Warner) in March 2002, which featured multi-format radio hits "Live" & "Here". Both videos charted.

Crush has spent most of the last two years crisscrossing Canada, on their own and sharing the stage with acts like Sheryl Crow, The Tragically Hip, Nickelback, Our Lady Peace, Nelly Furtado, Live, Great Big Sea, Amanda Marshall, Tom Cochrane, The Jayhawks, and Blue Rodeo and have appeared on "Open Mike with Mike Bullard", "Canada AM", CBC TV's "MusicWorks", MuchMoreMusic's "The Loop", MTV Canada, E-Talk, TSN's "Off the Record", and CBC Radio's "This Morning".

Now, with the release of Face In The Crowd (Sonic/Warner) on September 30, Crush is poised to continue the momentum. Produced by Gavin Brown (Billy Talent, Three Days Grace, Danko Jones) and recorded at Phase One Studios in Toronto, ON and The Sonic Temple in Halifax, NS, this 11-song, all original recording offers straightforward lyrics, catchy, finely crafted melodies, lush harmonies and natural, skillful musical sounds. The first single, "King For A Day", has earned significant national radio airplay and its video was added to heavy rotation on MuchMoreMusic (MMM), debuting at #20 on the MMM Countdown and reaching #2 on MMM's fan's choice Top 10 its first week.

"There was a lot of positive energy in making this CD. We found our stride and really had a blast creating", says Cory. "We were all very open-minded through the process allowing our songs to grow and really breathe."

Similar to Here, this recording covers a wide variety of life experiences, both real and fictional: love gained, love lost, making choices, and self-realization. "There is a real flow to this album," says Paul. "We have found our groove as a band and can't wait for people to hear these songs driving in their car, hanging out at home and of course, our favourite, at a live show."

"We hope that people who listen to our music feel what we felt when creating our songs - a cool, positive vibe," adds Cory.
