Blurtonia Biography

Blurtonia was formed in early 1999, as a means to support the "Adventures in the Kingdom of Blurtonia" CD recorded by songwriter Ian Blurton (ex-Change of Heart) and engineer Daryl Smith (Godspeed You Black Emperor/Sloan) at Chemical Sound in Toronto, Ontario. The recording had utilized performances by members of Blue Rodeo, The Hayden Band, King Cobb Steelie and others including Blurtonia personnel Corinne Culbertson (ex-Taste of Joy) and Al Kelso (ex-Dinner is Ruined). Corinne, Al and Ian joined forces with Jon McCann (ex-13 Engines) and Blurtonia was born.

With 50 years of combined playing experience, members of Blurtonia have drawn upon their involvement with bands like Change of Heart, 13 Engines, Weeping Tile, A Neon Rome, Bionic, Punchbuggy, John Bottomley, Limblifter, Scott B. Sympathy, Bif Naked, and many more. The group has covered a lot of musical ground including pop/punk/folk/psychadelia/hard rock/art weirdness etc. They bring those experiences to the band while incorporating a mandate to have fun while playing.
