When Adrienne Pierce played at Lilith Fair she had only been playing
and writing songs for two years. A few years and many songs and performances
later, Adrienne is releasing her debut CD, Small Fires.
Adrienne Pierce has "a knack for creating well-crafted pop tunes"
(1). "Pierce is a highly lyrical performer with a sweet, shy vocal
style that almost lulls you into such a state of relaxation and languorous
stupor that you may forget everything going on around you" (2). Adrienne's
unique voice and writing style has drawn comparisons to Mazzy Star, Edie
Brickell, and Rickie Lee Jones but it has also been said that she sounds
like no one else.
Adrienne has shared stages with Sheryl Crow, Beth Orton, Sarah McLachlan,
Jane Siberry, Sondre Lerche, The Stereophonics and Kinnie Starr. She has
performed at Lilith Fair, SXSW in Austin Texas, Rockrgrl Festival in Seattle,
NMW, NXNE, CMW, and was seen performing live on a recent episode of ZeD
TV on CBC. Adrienne has proven herself as a strong live performer whether
playing solo or backed by her band. She has also had several songs licensed
to television shows such as The Chris Isaak Show, Just Cause, Cold Squad
and Edgemont.
Adrienne hosted Vancouver's best open mic night for one year. It was
at one of these performances that she was spotted by Shauna Gold of Nettwerk
Management. Soon after Adrienne signed a management deal with Nettwerk.
Adrienne's debut CD, Small Fires, has already received a plethora of rave
reviews and a couple of award nominations and has garnered a ground swell
of anticipation. Small Fires offers 11 infectious, intelligent songs.
The production ranges from sparse, beautiful arrangements to hip hop rhythms,
fuzz bass, and guitars and keys that are sometimes hard to distinguish
from each other. "Small Fires is a wonderful sounding journey, from
start to close. Nothing-not a note or a single word-seems wasted or contrived
in Pierce's compositions."(3). Small Fires was produced by Sean Ashby
who is best known for his work as a guitarist for Sarah McLachlan and
mixed by Roger Swan (Swollen Members). One track, Every Sprinkler, was
produced, engineered and mixed by David Kershaw (Chin, Wild Strawberries).
Adrienne will head out on the road this summer.
The video for "Arizona", from Small Fires will also be released
this summer. It was shot in Death Valley by award winning director Bill
Morrison (Matthew Good Band).
