Formed in 1992, Alvy have cultivated their sweet and sour pop sound through a series of four independently released EP's.
Their first release, 1994's Some Assembly Required, was produced by Dave Bidini (Rheostatics) and Lewis Melville (Woodchopper's Association).
These recordings have received airplay on CFNY, CBC Radio and college and university stations across North America.
The band has been invited to busk at Lollapalooza and Another Roadside Attraction and has appeared on stage with such bands as The Inbreds, Andrew Cash, The Waltons, Kurt Swinghammer and many more.
Alvy have just released their first full-length recording, Pop Shop.
Their stripped down sound has grown with this self-produced recording to include horn sections, piano, strings and the occasional electronic instrument.
Pop Shop features 13 tracks, from upbeat, guitar driven songs such as the first single, Target in the Chest, to laid back country-influenced ballads like Soft and Strong. But whatever the style, each song on this intricately crafted album has a heart that beats with pure pop rhythm. |
