Off stage, Angelica Di Castro smiles softly, speaks gently and bears
no airs of pretension. But under the spotlight, the Canadian singer
is transformed with a distinctive and powerful voice that demonstrates
a deep connection with the words and melodies; as if she lived each
song she interprets.
2008 marks Angelica’s new milestone with the release of her first
full-length pop album, Beautiful Feeling, featuring a cross section
of the singer’s skill with a wide range of styles. Beautiful Feeling
can be broadly described as adult contemporary with a folk-rock edge
and has already been compared to Josh Groban and Celine Dion’s latest
original releases.
Angelica performs tracks by acclaimed songwriters Joel Feeney
(LeAnn Rimes), David Foster (Celine Dion), Dean Mctaggart (Amanda Marshall),
Jud Freidman (Whitney Houston) and more. From the album’s feel-good
opener, “Beautiful Feeling”, to the moderate melancholy of the aptly-titled
“Better to Love”, Angelica demonstrates a capacity to adapt to the temper
and tone of a given song, injecting emotion, reserve and strength where
necessary. Di Castro’s remarkable and characteristic lower register,
reminiscent of Cher, is brought to full-effectiveness in Stevie Wonder’s
“All in Love is Fair”.
Angelica began captivating audiences at small folk and rock festivals
across Canada, the U.S. and Europe. She found her first taste of success
with an acclaimed single, “I Can See it in Your Eyes”, at 15 years of
age. Her career gained a significant boost when the single received
positive reviews in Billboard Magazine, The Chart and The Record.
In 2002, she was presented with the incredible opportunity to sing for
the late Pope John Paul II at the World Youth Day festivities in her
home of Toronto before a crowd of 200,000 and a television audience of
millions worldwide.
After graduating with honours in classical voice from York University in
2003, Angelica was compelled to immerse herself in her Italian heritage,
an impulse that drove her to release a collection of the most popular
Italian songs ever recorded and has sold 7000 units to date.
In the spring of 2004, Angelica was invited by C.I.M Canada (Confederation
of Italians in the World) to represent Canada in Paris, France, where she
performed at "Un Nuit a Paris", the gala concert staged for all attending
the international conference.
Angelica’s recent performances include opening for Canadian singer Jann
Arden and Cirque Du Soleil , she recently had the honour of performing at
the Order of Ontario Awards. She regularly sings at the Air Canada Centre
for the Toronto Raptors NBA basketball team and earned a Best Pop Artist
nomination at the 2007 Ontario Independent Music Awards.
Angelica DiCastro has been on an exciting journey, traveling with her God
given gifts and a passion to perform. It is no co-incidence that this journey
has led to you, destined to hear Angelica's powerful voice, the song in her
soul and to join Angelica's new expedition…
